Dr. Greenberg Fashion Show 2014

Co-hosted by Jill Nicolini, Dr. Greenberg’s Fashion Show took place at Deco 1600 in Plainview and featured exercise demos by Equinox, raffle prizes, great food and cocktails, boutique shopping with jewelry, clothes, accessories and more, and a live fashion show where Dr. Greenberg’s patients walked the runway.

Tolerance Benefit & Auction – A Tasting Event

Each spring, the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) hosts the Annual Tolerance Benefit and Auction. This special evening brings together leading philanthropists and community leaders to support the HMTC’s many education programs. In partnership with the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments, the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation will award two exceptional youths with educational scholarships and they will be named 2014’s Friedlander Upstanders. Winthrop To Host Alzheimer’s Seminar Series

winthropWinthrop-University Hospital’s Alzheimer’s Program is pleased to host the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center Seminar Series lecture, “Working together: Partnering with the Person with Dementia,” on Monday, April 28 at 6 PM.  The program will be held at Winthrop’s Dr. Martin Spatz Conference Center, Room A, located at 259 First Street in Mineola.

Melanie Bunn, RN, MS, GNP, Alzheimer’s Training Consultant, will discuss strategies to use when caring for a loved one with dementia.  Ms. Bunn has a BS in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MS in Family Health Nursing with a Clinical Concentration in Geriatrics from Clemson University, and completed her post master’s experience in the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Program at Duke University School of Nursing.  A dynamic lecturer and skilled clinician in the areas of gerontological nursing and Alzheimer’s disease, Ms. Bunn presents over 150 session each year at local, statewide, and national conferences and meetings with interactive presentations using learner-centered educational strategies. North Shore University Hospital Awarded

nsNorth Shore University Hospital, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.

To receive the award, North Shore achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with five out of nine Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care.

These measures include aggressive use of medications, such as antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, deep vein thrombosis prophylaxis, cholesterol-reducing drugs and smoking cessation, all aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients. [Read more…]

LuHi Students Help In Nicaragua

luhiDuring February break, 32 students, along with several LuHi teachers and staff, departed the LuHi campus en route to Nicaragua.

Once there, they traveled to Managua where they installed sinks in homes that previously had no running water, paved floors and cared for friends in Leon. Read more…

Fashion Show Benefits Fay Fund

fayWhen Pennie Fay’s teenage son, Stephen, was killed a day shy of his 20th birthday in a vehicular accident in 2012, her world was torn apart. Pennie’s grief turned to anger when she learned that the truck driver that cut Stephen off on his motorcycle had a suspended license.

“I was very upset that this guy was charged with a misdemeanor. This person killed him, he had a history of being in and out of the criminal justice system and my son was at no fault,” Pennie said.

Seeking to make sure no one suffered the same injustice, Pennie founded the Stephen Joseph Fay Fund. Read more…

Commisso Brothers Host A Night Of Fashion

commissoSome of Long Island’s most discerning fashion and beauty aficionados came out for the First Annual Spring Fling Fashion Show at Commisso and Company at 30 Main St. in Port Washington recently.

Attendees watched a fashion show featuring local boutiques Entrée, Impulse, Purple, Suite 275 and Shoe Vault. Models’ makeup was provided by Paint Cosmetics and they donned 2014’s hottest hair styles created by the hair designers the Commisso Brothers. Read more…

58th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner A Success

lincolnOn the evening of March 20, 2014, the North Syosset-Woodbury Republican Club celebrated with over 425 friends, dignitaries and community members on hand at the 58th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner at Crest Hollow Country Club, in Woodbury. 

Town of Oyster Bay Councilman Chris J. Coschignano, who is also the Executive Leader of the North Syosset-Woodbury Republican Club , was the Master of Ceremonies as this year’s Lincoln Day Awards were presented to The Honorable Joseph G. Pinto, a Town of Oyster Bay Councilman and The Honorable Rebecca M. Alesia, Town of Oyster Bay Councilperson.  

Councilman Joseph G. Pinto was a past Trustee of the Village of Massapequa Park and past Town of Oyster Bay Deputy Commissioner of Public Works.  He is community minded and has been involved with the youth of our Community and works diligently to promote the Massapequa Little League. [Read more…]

On Sunday, April 27, from 1 – 4 p.m. the Manor hosts a Downton Abbey-themed tea social with author Monica Randall joining to do a presentation.

Held at historic Mill Neck Manor House, a magnificent English Tudor Revival mansion, the afternoon will allow guests to enjoy a taste of Edwardian England right here on Long Island.
