AHA’s 51st Annual LI Heart Ball A Success

More than 400 attendees from the Long Island medical and corporate community came out to the Cradle of Aviation in Garden City on Friday, May 2 to attend the American Heart Association’s 51st Annual Long Island Heart Ball.  The Long Island Heart Ball is an annual social event held to recognize outstanding accomplishments of individuals and companies in the area of cardiovascular science and leadership.  

This year’s event was chaired by Christopher Doveala, Vice President, Financial Services, Leviton Mfg. Co.  The 51st Annual Heart Ball honored George A. Petrossian, MD, FACC, Director, Interventional Cardiovascular Procedures, St. Francis Hospital, South Nassau Communities Hospital. Dr. Petrossian received the 2014 Cardiovascular Science Award. Attendees will also heard from former New York Islander and heart survivor, Jean Potvin and reality star and stroke survivor, Ashlee White.

The evening was a spectacular success and included dinner, silent auction and dancing to the tunes of That 70’s Band. LICADD’s Angel Ball To Honor Paul Williams

paulThe Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) invites you to attend its 27th Annual Angel Ball on Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Garden City Hotel.  Guests will enjoy a reception at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner, dancing, and a silent auction at 7:30pm.  Proceeds from the gala event will support LICADD’s alcohol and drug prevention education and intervention programs for children and families on Long Island. 

Paul Williams, Grammy Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter and Recovery Advocate will be honored as the 2014 Humanitarian Award Recipient.  Mr. Williams has won an Oscar, two golden globe awards, and has earned induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.  He currently serves as president and chairman of the board of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).  Mr. Williams considers the dissemination of his personal and educational knowledge of recovery his greatest passion, and is spreading his own message of hope and healing to thousands through his inspirational appearances around the country. Dr. Greenberg Fashion Show 2014

Co-hosted by Jill Nicolini, Dr. Greenberg’s Fashion Show took place at Deco 1600 in Plainview and featured exercise demos by Equinox, raffle prizes, great food and cocktails, boutique shopping with jewelry, clothes, accessories and more, and a live fashion show where Dr. Greenberg’s patients walked the runway.

Tolerance Benefit & Auction – A Tasting Event

Each spring, the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) hosts the Annual Tolerance Benefit and Auction. This special evening brings together leading philanthropists and community leaders to support the HMTC’s many education programs. Mill Neck Manor To Host Downton Abbey-Themed Tea

On Sunday, April 27, from 1 – 4 p.m. the Manor hosts a Downton Abbey-themed tea social with author Monica Randall joining to do a presentation.

Held at historic Mill Neck Manor House, a magnificent English Tudor Revival mansion, the afternoon will allow guests to enjoy a taste of Edwardian England right here on Long Island.

EAC Light of Hope Luncheon

The Light of Hope Luncheon is EAC Network’s largest annual fundraising event.  Proceeds will support EAC Network’s 70 programs that protect at-risk children, support senior citizens, help people with mental health and substance abuse problems, educate people seeking financial independence, assist individuals who are under or unemployed, mediate disputes, and work with families in crisis. The luncheon, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union on March 12, 2014 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, honored Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Angela S. Anton of Anton Community Newspapers.

Casino Night was a fun evening out as well as a highly successful fundraiser for Nassau County Museum of Art. Held at The Garden City Hotel’s POSH, and featuring exciting games of chance as well as an auction, each year the event continues to raise increasing funding to support exhibitions and programs at the museum. The Museum expresses its thanks and gratitude to the Corporate Committee Co-Chairs Michael Brown and Robert Mayer who spearheaded this really enjoyable evening of dining, networking and gaming.

Maurer Foundation Pink Diamond Gala

The event will honor women’s health and wellness expert Dr. Neeta Shah, MD and Angela Susan Anton, Publisher of Anton Community Newspapers, Long Island Weekly, and Long Island Social Diary. 

Dr. Shah, a former professor of medicine at multiple Long Island universities, is a well-regarded leader and speaker on women’s health. She previously served as Vice President for Community Services for The Katz Institute for Women’s Health, connecting the facility with communities, and seeing that the public received health services and information. Dr. Shah was instrumental in having Bill #295-2009 signed into law, which supports an annual Women’s Health Week and Women’s Checkup Day for Suffolk County. Dr. Shah has made many television and radio appearances and has also contributed articles to a number of written publications. Her expertise has been acknowledged through various awards and distinctions including the Long Island Business News “Top 50 Most Influential Women of Long Island Award” in both 2009 and 2011.
Ms. Anton is publisher of Anton Community Newspapers, which serve an extensive portion of Long Island as premier local new sources for various communities. Reaching a readership of over 150,000 is one way in which Ms. Anton helps others, informing the public of timely and important news in and around their neighborhoods. Ms. Anton additionally participates as a board member and supporter of many charitable organizations including the American Liver Foundation of Greater New York, the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, the Theodore Roosevelt Council Boy Scouts of America, the Long Island Arts Alliance, the Nassau County Film Advisory Board, the WLIW Committee of WNET.org, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Seven Stars and Stripes and the Explorers Club in New York City. She has organized many fundraising initiatives through her community involvement. 
Live music performed by classic rock cover band The Core will accompany dancing. The talented band members, including Maurer Foundation Board Member and keyboard player Dr. Barry Douglas, guitarist and vocalist Larry Schwartz, vocalist Alyson Gordon, lead guitarist and vocalist Elliot Megrin, bassist Rick Gigi and percussionist Doug Schwarz, will bring excellent energy to the venue.

As the saying goes, “diamonds are forever…”—a fitting concept when applied to the broad impact that the Pink Diamond Gala will have. All proceeds from this charity evening will benefit The Maurer Foundation’s breast health education programs. These programs, which have reached over 200,000 people since the foundation’s inception in 1995, teaches life-saving information and tools that can lead to the early detection or prevention of breast cancer and, in the long run, save lives.
Through presentations to schools, businesses, and community organizations, the foundation’s educators discuss breast cancer risk factors, dispel myths and explain the importance of self-exams and mammograms. The foundation’s next goal is to reach a quarter of a million people with this information, and funds raised from events such as the Pink Diamond Gala will help make that possible.

The Pink Diamond Gala was coordinated through a dedicated committee of Maurer Foundation staff members and volunteers.
